At the heart of our business plan is a passion for supporting and giving back to our community.

Share the Warmth

For over 25 years, Coast has been collecting coats for those who need them. Every fall, customers are encouraged to bring in used winter coats for adults or children. For each coat, they receive a coupon for $50 off the purchase of a new winter coat worth $250 or more. Coast partners with the Coast High Country Inn to clean the jackets and with the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition to distribute them to people who need them. Over the years over 3000 jackets have been distributed.

LEED Certified Building

In 2008, Coast Mountain Sports opened in its current location in the Taku Building. The Taku is Yukon’s only LEED certified commercial  building. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy Efficient Design. It is an internationally recognized standard of “green” building that sets standards for design, construction, operation and maintenance of “green” buildings. Our goal: to be environmentally responsible and to use resources efficiently.

The Home Project

We at Coast are proud to call Yukon home. Even for many who live outside Yukon, our territory is still their home at heart. Coast has created a line of clothing & accessories to celebrate our beautiful Home called Yukon. And to help those who find themselves without a home here. All proceeds from the sale of Home items go towards implementing “Safe at Home” across Yukon. Safe at Home is Yukon’s action plan to end and prevent homelessness. For more information, visit the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition’s website: www.yapc.ca

To date, Coast has donated over $35,000 to help end homelessness.

Free Day on the Trails

Every year Coast, working with Fischer, MSR, the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club and the local ski schools hosts “Free Day on the Trails” in Whitehorse. Our goal is to introduce people to the joys of cross country skiing and snowshoeing.  Our winter is a long one and getting out in the snow is important to physical and mental health. Everything for the day is free: ski passes, ski/boot/pole rentals, ski classes, guided snowshoeing. There’s even free hot chocolate and cookies!

Donations

We give hundreds of items a year to community efforts related to health, well-being, sports and the outdoors. From items for our shelters to volunteer gifts to auction items, we are proud supporters of our wonderful Yukon community.

Memberships

Yukon is a special place with so many groups working for the good of all. We are active Members of the Canadian, Yukon and Whitehorse Chambers of Commerce.  We have been very active in thee new Buy Yukon Initiative. We participate in many committees and organizations to support local artists, to try to end and prevent homelessness, to promote tourism and a healthy, balanced economy. The Covid pandemic has affected so many in our community and we believe strongly that although we are apart, we are working together to keep our community healthy and safe. We have been involved in committees and groups, assisting in the efforts to get through this difficult time.

We are so proud to be active members of our wonderful Yukon community. We strive continuously to support and to give back.
